A glance at the menu reveals the grand ambition of Aurora SoHo: Summer truffles indeed.

Provence in Bloom
With its new wardrobe of sunny Provencal prints and the magical vernal blooming of its sheltered garden, Provence at the age of twenty, has never looked lovelier.

Prime Burger Café
Updating Old Homestead's sidewalk seating with a nip and a tuck to pass it off as the new Prime Burger Café is clearly a brazen move...

Landmarc at Time Warner
I’m betting that the food at Landmarc in the Time Warner building never has to be one jot better than it is right now to strike gold. There are not many tempting options in this neighborhood for a very good $13 burger and respectable strip steak at $28 with a bit of park view, open from 7 a.m. till 2 a.m. This vast, stylish, upscale lunchroom in its fuzzy infancy is already a lure for shoppers and hungry cooks finished scrubbing down other kitchens nearby.

Tree
“It’s a real find,” our producer friend Dasha promises, inviting us to discover the no-airs bistro Tree in the East Village. And midway into a first-rate crock of onion soup and classically French lardon-studded frisée under a steaming poached egg, I have to agree. Dasha wandered in one night just before curtain at Theater for the New City down First Avenue and found chef-owner Andrew Robinson eating at the bar.

Spotlight Live
Spotlight Live is braced for flocks of free-spending fame freaks, wannabe American Idols and karaoke fans hungry for fame, popcorn shrimp, and mini-burgers. Besides digging into comfort-food classics, diners can cut a track in a private recording booth, shimmy onstage in front of a live munching audience backed by professional singers, and know the world can catch their act on the JumboTron outside, overlooking Times Square.

Wild Salmon
The embattled Jeffrey Chodorow seems tame at a friend’s tasting at Wild Salmon—his fourth new restaurant since December and his first since a $40,000 full-page J’accuse in the New York Times skewered critics who dismissed his extravagant Kobe Club. “Mario’s father, Armandino Batali, saw the ad and sent me a whole prosciutto,” he confides. I loved Kobe Club, so his media puffers seat me with Jeffrey, wife Linda, and son Zachary. Overhead, 250 copper salmon swim sluggishly.

Wild Edibles
Quiet as an octopus scooting along the ocean bottom, Wild Edibles stuffed a mini eat-at counter and eight two-top tables into its small seafood shop on a Third Avenue stretch lusting for really good grub.

Anthos
Anthos, Greek for blossom, is the stage for chef-partner Michael Psilakis's obsessive dream...an homage to his mom's rustic home cooking, everything Greek respun.

Hawaiian Tropic Zone
Clearly, this lonely guy's fantasyland is the consummate place for dinner to keep our guys happy that Sunday night of The Big Game.

Fireside
Fans of Sam DeMarco's comfort food at the restaurant First, and later District, will want to know he's back from a post-9/11 midlife crisis and romantic sabbatical in 2004.

So unloved Mix, twice unhappily revised, reemerges as Kobe Club, and the kitchen is already impressive.

Klee Brasserie
Marinate an Austrian in the culture of New York eating for a while, and don't be surprised if he comes up with a menu like chef Daniel Angerer's (ex of Fresh) at his new Klee Brasserie.

Metro Marché
Metro Marché is a courageous gambit in a corner of the Port Authority bus station, turning out amazingly good brasserie dishes at astonishingly gentle prices. It sits all aglow, an oasis of optimism and red-black-and-yellow-striped leatherette, surrounded outside by the dinge and funk and dysfunctional creatures that have always made a trek to the bus slightly scarifying.

Porter House New York
The menu is a pledge of allegiance to American steakhouse familiars-some of them sensational.
