Esquared Hospitality’s takeover of Bar Basque at the Eventi includes a summer popup called The Lawn, a mix of their Fish Shack and Go Burger in the 15,000 square-foot FoodParc space on the ground floor. The duo will debut mid-May and run through the summer.
Customers can carryout or grab a table in the courtyard under the giant jumbotron or find tiered indoor seating where video screens will be added. A full bar stand remains.
ESquared is taking over the Eventi feeding contract from China Grill Management so Jeffrey Chodorow and his sophisticated Bar Basque restaurant are out as I reported March 27. A set designer has been hired to come up with a “natural, real look,” according to a partner of Esquared’s Jimmy Haber. Obviously he is referring to FoodParc’s futuristic sleek look by artist-illustrator Syd Meade, designer of the movie “Blade Runner,” at the first restaurant. Bar Basque was glaringly bright and very white, with touch screens for ordering. Flashes of color and moving gels gave FoodParc a disco vibe. Luddites could order from a real person too.
After summer, the hotel is expected to decide whether to reclaim the space for an expanded lobby or stick with retail.
