Hot Blondies invade our office. Hot Brunettes too.

            Two hot blondies -- Lorin Milman, a self taught baker, and Laura Patterson, a marketing veteran – put their chunky, nutty, seductive goodies on line as well as selling them at Bloomingdale’s, West Side Market and other outlets, and at the Brooklyn Flea Sundays and Smorgasbord Saturdays. 

          I was oblivious. I eat mostly sweets I find on menus in my rounds as the InsatiableCritic. But occasionally tweeters rave about their baking.  In this case Lorin’s husband hinted his wife’s Hot Blondies were remarkable. “Send me some and if I love them, I’ll tweet about it,” I responded.

          The box arrived. Four blondies: the classic with chocolate chips, butterscotch and white chocolate, peanut butter-chocolate chunk, and oatmeal with raisins and pecans. Four brownies: Expresso with white chocolate chip, S’mores with a graham cracker crust and melted marshmallow headband, Nutella hazelnut and the classic…”So freakin’ classic, she may as well be a Birkin bag,” the menu suggests.

          I thought I’d just take a tiny bite of four and taste the rest the next day to keep my mouth fresh.Twenty-two bites later I had tasted all eight, a few twice or three times, just ti be sure, and had devoured almost half the classic brunette. Smooth and satiny, sensuously gooey…dangerous.  Each “babe” is made in its own 3 by 3 inch cooking tin for the ultimate in caramelized edges.

          What a wonderful gift, I thought. At $4 each, I could send a friend all eight for $32 plus $9.20 shipping (Manhattan only. Elsewhere it’s more expensive)  Cheaper than flowers and my friend will either love me forever or hate me.
