Headline-seeking Steakhouse Stages Half-Assed Apology
Ooops. Morton’s was just pretending to apologize for its outrageous $2.50 ice cube charge with a clever come-on of half price drinks and free sliders at all its New York area steakhouses. I was wrong yesterday when I crowed (see below) that the high-priced beef chain had surrendered to complaints. “Our event is only tongue in cheek,” the flack tells me. “And only for two hours today, from 5 to 7 p.m.” He insists Morton’s doesn’t charge for ice cubes, just $2.50 extra for on-the-rocks drinks.

Nasty Ice Cube Charge Morphs to Half-Price Drinks and Free Filet Sliders
Market guru Dan Dorfman's well-aimed blows have brought the mighty Morton’s steakmongers to their knees. Dorfman’s wrath at a $2.50 ice cube charge for his on-the-rocks drinks at the testosterone-loaded beef canteen was first exposed here in Short Order, then picked up with dramatic photos by the NY Post. How quickly the cubes melted in that torrid heat. Today Morton’s sent out a notice: “The Ice Is On Us,” promising 50% off on all “On the Rocks" drinks and “petite” filet mignon sandwiches on the house at all six of its New York-area outlets. That should elevate Dorfman to the rocks-drinkers Hall of Fame.
